How does the HemWell treatment work?

We utilize a safe battery-level microcurrent that is sent to the base of the hemorrhoid lesion.  This produces a natural chemical reaction, which causes the hemorrhoid tissue/vessel to shrink, and hence makes the hemorrhoid disappear.

Is the procedure safe?

Numerous studies and clinical trials have shown that this FDA approved procedure is extremely safe and effective.  Other forms of non-surgical treatments such as injections (sclerotherapy), laser, and banding procedure can cause increased risks of pain, bleeding, and local area of irritation, which can increase risks of infection.  The procedure does not penetrate the tissue; therefore, it is the most non-invasive and effective procedure in treating hemorrhoids.

Is the procedure covered by insurance?

Yes, the majority of insurance plans, including Medicare, do cover the procedure.  The treatment is recognized by insurance plans as a medically necessary procedure for the treatment of internal hemorrhoids.

Do hemorrhoids always require surgery?

100% of internal hemorrhoids can be treated using the HemWell America treatment procedure.

How many treatments are necessary?

Most patients will find relief of symptoms after 1-2 treatments.  Permanent closure of the hemorrhoid lesions usually require a series of treatments, which are dependent on the number of hemorrhoids present and the Grade (size) of the lesions.

Does the treatment hurt?

The treatment is slightly uncomfortable, but a majority of patients find the procedure easily tolerated. The provider will use a local numbing gel which helps with the discomfort. Very few patients experience any significant post-procedural pain. Many providers pair Hemwell with colonoscopies or other GI procedures that require some form of sedation making the procedure truly pain-free.

Will I have to miss work or other activities?

You can typically return to work and resume your normal activities immediately following the procedure (but refrain from vigorous activity until the following day).

What are hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are enlarge dilated blood vessels in the rectal and anal region.  They can be external or internal depending on the location of the hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoids can cause discomfort, itching, bleeding, and sometimes severe pain.

What are the causes of hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are caused by too much pressure in the veins of the rectum, which can be the result of a variety of factors. Hemorrhoids can be linked to diet, constipation, diarrhea, obesity, pregnancy and childbirth, genetics, and even sitting for extended periods of time.

How do I know if what I have is a hemorrhoid, or something else?

There are other common anorectal conditions that present with symptoms similar to hemorrhoids. While hemorrhoids are the most common anorectal condition that affects millions of people each year, it is recommended that patients schedule a consultation with our providers who can properly diagnose and treat anorectal conditions.

How can I prevent hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids can’t always be prevented, but you can reduce your chances by avoiding some of the main hemorrhoid causes, like constipation and heavy lifting. Whether you’ve had hemorrhoid treatment before or not, it’s a good idea to:

  • Get enough fiber. Reduce your intake of high-fat, low-fiber foods, like red meat and dairy, which can cause constipation.
  • Drink six glasses of water a day.
  • Avoid straining during bowel movements. If unable to go, try again later.
  • If you have extended periods of sitting, stay hydrated and eat fiber if possible.
Can’t I just use an over-the-counter treatment, like Preparation H cream or Tuck pads?

You can use an over-the-counter treatment to help relieve hemorrhoid symptoms such as itching and swelling. However, these remedies don’t treat the cause of the hemorrhoid, and it is more likely that your symptoms will resurface eventually. For a long-term solution, the HemWell America procedure is your best option. The most important thing to remember is that hemorrhoids are a common affliction – most of us will experience symptomatic hemorrhoids at some point in our lives. You should never feel stressed or embarrassed about speaking to your healthcare provider, who can provide more detailed answers to all of the above questions, and any others you might have.

It’s not worth the wait. Schedule an appointment and start feeling better now.

I was able to keep my symptoms under control but it would still come and go. The HemWell’s treatment was the solution to my problem and I only regret not knowing about it sooner. I strongly encourage those suffering from hemorrhoids to get this treatment. It is so quick and painless that it seems almost unreal I dealt with the symptoms for so long.
